diamond dozenWhy is Pam one of my Diamond Dozen?

Pam and I met when she was in the early stages of Going For Independence (GFI).  Her description of why and how she was creating her Community Interest Company quite simply blew me away.  Her vision, her insight, her deep-rooted drive for inclusivity are something to behold.  A real Creative Enabler, Pam was one of my Diamond Dozen before I even knew I was doing it!

My description of Pam in six words

Social enterprise trailblazer. Creating inclusive communities.

bioPam’s Bio

Pam originally trained and worked as an architect where she developed a special interest in accessibility; both physical environment and to information. This led to her changing direction to service development in health and social care with the potential to make a difference for people with sensory and physical disabilities.

After working for various Local Authorities and Health Trusts she left statutory services to become a consultant; establishing links with charities specialising in equipment information and advice and becoming Trustees for Croydon Mencap and Croydon Voluntary Association for the Blind.  In response to a gap in provision, Pam launched Going For Independence (GFI) a community-interest-company specialising in providing information on equipment and adaptations for independent living.

Building on GFI’s success, Pam worked on One Precious Life, a project supporting people with Long Term Conditions, funded by InnovateUK and became a founder member of national charity, Centre of Excellence for Sensory Impairment (COESI) of which she is currently Chair.

Pam has a love of art and, in addition to her new initiative, Art for All the Senses, she unwinds with her ceramics, sculpture and oil painting.
